Dominican Republic eSIMHow much eSIM data for a trip in the Dominican Republic?
✓ Prices checked 22 Oct 2026For 14 days in the Dominican Republic with normal daily use, TripUtils estimates 6–9 GB. A 10 GB plan is the usual buffer. Not a live price. Resort days in Punta Cana and excursions fit normal use. Saily’s Dominican Republic plans stop at 10 GB and list no unlimited option, so a long stay with heavy use needs a top-up.

Roaming in the Dominican Republic on an Austrian plan: what A1 and Drei charge
The Dominican Republic is outside EU roam-like-at-home, so the EU data in an Austrian plan does not apply there. Published prices, checked on 22 Oct 2026 (euros incl. VAT):
| Network | Option | Data | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | Roaming Pass (Zone 2) | per started GB | €5.90 |
| A1 | A1 Roaming Datenwoche | 2 GB, 7 days | €4.90 |
| Drei | Roaming-Paket Travel | 1 GB, 15 days | €10.00 |
| Drei | Roaming-Paket Travel Select | 5 GB, 15 days | €20.00 |
For the 10 GB planning size (14 days), A1’s Roaming Pass would bill 10 × €5.90 = €59.00, the A1 Roaming Datenwoche 6 × 2 GB = €29.40 (packages run 7 calendar days, Austrian time, and can be stacked); on Drei, 2 packages (Travel Select + Travel Select) cover it for €40.00. A1 says the Roaming Pass is switched on automatically for every tariff signed since 24 June 2026, and it blocks roaming data at a default limit of €60, which you can raise yourself.
Magenta prices depend on the tariff — look them up in Magenta’s roaming finder. Older tariffs without these options can cost more. Sources: A1, Drei, Magenta.
Paying in the Dominican Republic: Dominican peso (DOP)
In the Dominican Republic you pay in DOP, not euros. For a euro account, card payments and ATM withdrawals in DOP are foreign-currency transactions: many banks add a foreign-transaction fee or a marked-up exchange rate. Check your bank's fee list before you go. If a card terminal or ATM offers to charge you in euros instead of DOP, choosing DOP is usually cheaper, because otherwise the merchant's or ATM operator's rate applies.

Before you fly to the Dominican Republic
- Buy and install the eSIM at home on Wi‑Fi. Saily says plans activate automatically when you arrive and can be activated up to 180 days after purchase.
- Turn on data roaming for the Saily line (Saily’s setup steps require it) and switch data off on your home SIM, so apps do not use expensive roaming by accident.
- Keep the home SIM active for bank and login text messages — travel eSIMs like Saily’s are data plans.
Assumptions and sources
Light 0.20 / normal 0.50 / heavy 0.95 GB per day, plus optional extras, plus about 20% buffer. No live retail prices.
Data use follows your phone habits, not the season. Count only the days you will rely on mobile data rather than hotel Wi‑Fi.

Common questions
Is 10 GB enough for 14 days in the Dominican Republic?
Resort days in Punta Cana and excursions fit normal use. Saily’s Dominican Republic plans stop at 10 GB and list no unlimited option, so a long stay with heavy use needs a top-up. The 6–9 GB estimate plus buffer lands on 10 GB. Hotel Wi‑Fi is not counted. Streaming video on mobile is the usual reason to go larger.
Should I roam in the Dominican Republic instead?
The Dominican Republic is outside EU roaming. As of 22 Oct 2026, A1’s Roaming Pass bills €5.90 per started GB there (zone 2), the A1 Datenwoche gives 2 GB for 7 days for €4.90, and Drei sells 1 GB for €10 or 5 GB for €20 (15 days each). Compare that with an eSIM quote for the same GB.
How much data do I need for 7, 14 or 30 days in the Dominican Republic?
With normal use (maps, messaging, social, no daily video) TripUtils estimates: 7 days: 3–5 GB, plan for 5 GB (smallest Saily fit: 5 GB / 30 days, US$26.99); 14 days: 6–9 GB, plan for 10 GB (smallest Saily fit: 10 GB / 30 days, US$37.99); 30 days: 12–18 GB, plan for 20 GB (no single Saily plan that large — top up). Saily prices as listed on 19 Oct 2026.
Is 10 GB enough for a month in the Dominican Republic?
Saily’s largest Dominican Republic plan on 19 Oct 2026 is 10 GB for 30 days (US$37.99). TripUtils estimates 12–18 GB for 30 days of normal use, so either use Wi‑Fi part of the time or plan one top-up in the app.
Do I need a plug adapter in the Dominican Republic?
The Dominican Republic uses Type A and B sockets at 120 V / 60 Hz, so Austrian and German plugs need an adapter. Check that your charger’s label says 100–240 V before plugging it in.
Do you show live Saily prices?
No. The plan table on this page is a dated snapshot from saily.com (22 Oct 2026); the live price is always on Saily. The GB figures are TripUtils estimates.
