How much eSIM data for a trip in Canada?
✓ Prices checked 22 Oct 2026For 14 days in Canada with normal daily use, TripUtils estimates 6–9 GB. A 10 GB plan is the usual buffer. Not a live price. City days in Toronto or Vancouver fit normal use; road trips mean hours of navigation, so download offline maps for long stretches between towns. Saily lists Canada plans from 1 GB for 7 days up to 20 GB for 30 days, plus unlimited options.

EU roaming does not cover Canada. A 10 GB plan is the usual buffer. Open Saily and pick a live Canada plan.

Roaming in Canada on an Austrian plan: what A1 and Drei charge
Canada is outside EU roam-like-at-home, so the EU data in an Austrian plan does not apply there. Published prices, checked on 22 Oct 2026 (euros incl. VAT):
| Network | Option | Data | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | Roaming Pass (Zone 1) | per started GB | €4.90 |
| A1 | A1 Roaming Datenwoche Welt | 1 GB, 7 days | €9.90 |
| Drei | Roaming-Paket Go | 1 GB, 15 days | €5.00 |
| Drei | Roaming-Paket Nordamerika Unlimited | unlimited, 15 days | €35.00 |
For the 10 GB planning size (14 days), A1’s Roaming Pass would bill 10 × €4.90 = €49.00, the A1 Roaming Datenwoche Welt 10 × 1 GB = €99.00 (packages run 7 calendar days, Austrian time, and can be stacked); on Drei the “Nordamerika Unlimited” package covers it for €35.00. A1 says the Roaming Pass is switched on automatically for every tariff signed since 24 June 2026, and it blocks roaming data at a default limit of €60, which you can raise yourself.
Magenta prices depend on the tariff — look them up in Magenta’s roaming finder. Older tariffs without these options can cost more. Sources: A1, Drei, Magenta.
Paying in Canada: Canadian dollar (CAD)
In Canada you pay in CAD, not euros. For a euro account, card payments and ATM withdrawals in CAD are foreign-currency transactions: many banks add a foreign-transaction fee or a marked-up exchange rate. Check your bank's fee list before you go. If a card terminal or ATM offers to charge you in euros instead of CAD, choosing CAD is usually cheaper, because otherwise the merchant's or ATM operator's rate applies.

Before you fly to Canada
- Buy and install the eSIM at home on Wi‑Fi. Saily says plans activate automatically when you arrive and can be activated up to 180 days after purchase.
- Turn on data roaming for the Saily line (Saily’s setup steps require it) and switch data off on your home SIM, so apps do not use expensive roaming by accident.
- Keep the home SIM active for bank and login text messages — travel eSIMs like Saily’s are data plans.
Assumptions and sources
Light 0.20 / normal 0.50 / heavy 0.95 GB per day, plus optional extras, plus about 20% buffer. No live retail prices.
Data use follows your phone habits, not the season. Count only the days you will rely on mobile data rather than hotel Wi‑Fi.

Common questions
Is 10 GB enough for 14 days in Canada?
City days in Toronto or Vancouver fit normal use; road trips mean hours of navigation, so download offline maps for long stretches between towns. Saily lists Canada plans from 1 GB for 7 days up to 20 GB for 30 days, plus unlimited options. The 6–9 GB estimate plus buffer lands on 10 GB. Hotel Wi‑Fi is not counted. Streaming video on mobile is the usual reason to go larger.
Should I roam in Canada instead?
Canada is outside EU roaming. As of 22 Oct 2026, A1’s Roaming Pass bills €4.90 per started GB there (zone 1) and Drei sells 1 GB for €5 or unlimited data (“Nordamerika Unlimited”) for €35, valid 15 days. Compare that with an eSIM quote for the same GB.
How much data do I need for 7, 14 or 30 days in Canada?
With normal use (maps, messaging, social, no daily video) TripUtils estimates: 7 days: 3–5 GB, plan for 5 GB (smallest Saily fit: 5 GB / 30 days, US$17.99); 14 days: 6–9 GB, plan for 10 GB (smallest Saily fit: 10 GB / 30 days, US$30.99); 30 days: 12–18 GB, plan for 20 GB (smallest Saily fit: 20 GB / 30 days, US$43.99). Saily prices as listed on 19 Oct 2026.
What does Saily’s unlimited plan for Canada include?
On 19 Oct 2026 Saily’s Canada page described its unlimited plan as 3 GB per day without a speed limit, then unlimited data at up to 1 Mbps. For most trips a fixed plan from the table above is cheaper.
Is there one eSIM for Canada, the USA and Mexico?
Yes: Saily’s North America plan covers Canada, Mexico and the United States (on 19 Oct 2026: 1 GB / 7 days US$5.99 up to 20 GB / 30 days US$43.99, plus unlimited). On Austrian plans, Drei’s “Nordamerika Unlimited” package covers the same three countries for €35 for 15 days.
Do I need a plug adapter in Canada?
Canada uses Type A and B sockets at 120 V / 60 Hz, so Austrian and German plugs need an adapter. Check that your charger’s label says 100–240 V before plugging it in.
Do you show live Saily prices?
No. The plan table on this page is a dated snapshot from saily.com (22 Oct 2026); the live price is always on Saily. The GB figures are TripUtils estimates.
